Tejesueños — Transmedia Storytelling Project & Cultural Universe

Tejesueños is an award-winning Transmedia Storytelling Project designed to preserve, celebrate, and immerse audiences in the mythos and cultural heritage of the Wayuu community across interactive digital media. Originating from a research-creation methodology, the project translates indigenous oral traditions into a multi-layered ecosystem of video games, mixed realities, 2D animations, audio stories, and web platforms. The project was awarded First Place at the 2025 Premios Huella in Digital Entertainment at Universidad de Medellín.

Context & Communication Strategy

The project addressed a structural gap in Colombian digital media, where indigenous heritage is often limited to academic texts or superficial representations. Tejesueños bridges this gap by transforming ancestral knowledge into modern, interactive digital experiences. Through collaboration and validation with Wayuu community members—such as Professor Valkis Bernie—the narrative system ensures symbolic integrity, ethical respect, and cultural authenticity without relying on stereotypes.

Transmedia Storytelling Project Architecture & Narrative System

Hosted on a central digital portal (tejesuenos.online), the universe connects ten interconnected media products exploring different spiritual dimensions and historical eras of the Wayuu worldview:

• Interactive Video Games: 3D titles including Shiliwala (a narrative auto-battler centered on the Majayut fertility rite), Lapü (a 3D open-world adventure featuring world-switching mechanics), and Apüushi (a VR interaction shooter).

• Immersive & Virtual Reality: Achonwaa (a Meta Quest 2 VR experience focused on Wayuu women’s roles) alongside a physical map equipped with Augmented Reality (AR) to explore the geography of La Guajira.

• Audiovisual & Sound Production: The 360° 2D animation Wale’kerü (exploring the origins of weaving), live holographic mapping in El Origen del Todo, and a dedicated Spotify podcast series detailing deities like Maleiwa, Juya, Pulowi, and Wanülu.

• Web Ecosystem: A central web platform containing the Transmedia Bible, character wikis, and interactive territorial maps.

Personal Contributions & Key Roles

My work spanned several key creative and technical production areas within the transmedia ecosystem:

• Podcast Production & Audio Editing: I participated in producing and editing the narrative podcast episodes released on Spotify. By combining oral storytelling with immersive soundscapes, we brought foundational Wayuu myths and spiritual origins to life for digital listeners.

• Real-Time Projection Mapping: On the physical and experiential side, I helped design and execute real-time video projection mapping setups using Resolume Arena. We mapped visual art and atmospheric textures onto physical structures to complement live narrative presentations.

• Social Media & Content Strategy: I helped lead the social media distribution strategy, designing visual posts and community engagement campaigns on platforms like Instagram to expand the narrative reach and connect with digital audiences online.
